NORTH WEST RELIEF ROAD – PARISH COUNCIL SEEKS SPECIALIST ADVICE

The Parish Council has enlisted the advice of a planning barrister and transport consultant in order to respond to the planning application for the North West Relief Road. It is conceded in the application’s Transport Assessment that the road would have severe impacts on Boughton. There are also question marks over the scheme’s efficacy, notably a new roundabout linking the new road with Brampton Lane and the Welford Road that is predicted to have delays in the morning rush hour of up to 20 minutes. The application was due to be decided in early Autumn but there is expected to be a delay while Northamptonshire Highways tries to improve the function of this new roundabout.

NEW EQUIPMENT IN THE POCKET PARK

“Repairs and safety improvements have been completed in the Pocket Park over the summer,” writes Karen Fletcher. “Now this work has been done, new equipment is going to be ordered. We are hoping this will include a giant climbing frame and a team swing. There will also be a new picnic area and benches. Plus, at the top of the park some outdoor gym equipment suitable for those aged 14 and over.”

LOCAL CHARITY’S 10TH ANNIVERSARY FUNDRAISER IN VILLAGE HALL

There will be dancing to live band Fynnius Fogg and a hot supper, bar and raffle in the Village Hall to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Dunstone Bennett Complementary Centre. This provides support for those undergoing cancer therapy. It will take place on
2nd November from 7pm. Tickets are £15 and include a glass of Prosecco. These are available from Helen Coghill (hmcoghill@doctors.org.uk) and Carol Dunstone (carol.dustone@zen.co.uk).

NEW PUBLIC POOL AND LEISURE CENTRE IN MOULTON

Daventry District Council has announced that it is to buy the Chris Moody Centre, at Moulton College’s Pitsford campus. This includes a swimming pool, fitness suite and rooms for classes. It is hoped the facility will be open to the general public by 2020.

BEWARE “CAT” BURGLARS

There has been a spate of thefts of catalytic convertors from cars in recent weeks. A Boughton resident recently became victim to this spree while shopping at Waitrose. In broad daylight, presumably with people milling around, the convertor was removed from the Toyota – a marque particularly favoured by the thieves. The process take a matter of minutes and the gangs simply jack up the car, almost appearing as if they are helping change a tyre!

CHARLOTTE FLETCHER-STABLES’ GREENER EARTH

In the past year the UK has used 275,000 tonnes of plastic, which is heavier than the weight of ALL the remaining elephants on the planet combined.

Green tip: use reusable water bottles. These are available everywhere from Primark to Sports Direct.

Each year the UK throws away over 2.5 billion takeaway coffee cups. This is enough to stretch around the planet roughly 5.5 times.

Green tip: many coffee shops, such as Costa and Starbucks, sell reusable coffee cups that you can buy and bring back again for your daily caffeine dose or they are willing to use a cup you already own bought from other coffee shops or supermarkets.

Help the planet by reducing single-use plastic waste. Together we can make a difference.
