FINAL CHANCE FOR BALL TICKETS

June 14th is the final deadline to buy Golden Ball tickets. The evening, on 28th June, is in aid of three local charities: Thomas’s Fund; FaceFax and the Northamptonshire and Warwickshire Air Ambulance. As well as the delicious three-course dinner, live band and casino, there are exciting lots in the auction, which will be conducted by Richard Greener. These include two tickets for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone including helicopter flights to the track. Contact thegoldenball2014@outlook.com for more information.

AN EVENING OF PORTUGUESE DELIGHTS

On Friday 20th June there is a wine tasting in the Village Hall in aid of Church funds.

A CALL FOR CAKES AS VILLAGE DAY TAKES SHAPE

Boughton Village Day kicks off at 1pm on Saturday 5th July. There will be life-like Star Wars characters thanks to UK Garrison, plus a children’s fancy dress competition. Why not come as your favourite Star Wars hero? Other attractions include live music, a concert, clown, stalls and a barbecue. Church Street is closed from 1pm but the pub is open all day! Teas will be served in the Church Rooms. Cakes and offers of help would be very welcome. Contact Marion Scott at marionescott@sky.com or 842427 if you are able to lend a hand.

POCKET PARK: DO YOUR BIT

There will be a clean-up afternoon in the Pocket Park on 8th June from 2pm. If you or your family enjoy using the Park, please come along – the more the merrier and less work for all! The planters in the maze, which have suffered from neglect and light-fingered visitors, are to receive much-needed TLC in the coming weeks thanks to Duncan Muddiman from Maymoor Landscapes, who will be doing the work and is kindly donating some of the materials. Maintaining this area is a challenge, so the Pocket Park Committee is always keen to hear from green-fingered villagers able to lend their expertise and a bit of time to devote to this task. Please email boughtonpocketpark@yahoo.co.uk to get in touch.

BVM’S SUMMER BREAK

As usual there is no newsletter in August, so please submit notices for events held over the summer in good time for the July edition. Next month will feature the last of our “vintage recipes” taken from fundraising recipe cards produced in the Eighties by Boughton School Association. Regular recipes will continue from September, so please send in your favourites, plus any news, family events or ideas for features and regular items.

LADIES FELLOWSHIP: SOME IMPORTANT CHANGES

From September, Boughton Ladies Fellowship will meet once a month, rather than twice, on the third Monday of each month. It has become increasingly difficult to find sufficient speakers to sustain two meetings. Ladies Fellowship is a friendly gathering but needs new members. Anyone interested in coming along, contact Sue Greatorex on 842332.

TIME TO START COLLECTING JUMBLE

There will be a jumble sale in the Village Hall on Saturday 13th September to raise money for hall funds. Volunteers will collect jumble the day before. More information to follow.

GET ON YOUR BIKE?

CRICKET CLUB WELCOMES ABINGTON TEAM

Abington Cricket Club is playing its home games at Boughton on Saturdays this season. Members of the club are very keen that it becomes part of the community. Volunteers from Abington did a splendid job a few weeks ago in cleaning the pavilion; replacing missing roof tiles and repainting dressing rooms and window frames. Like the Boughton cricket team, Abington is always pleased to see supporters and new players. For more information, please visit www.abingtoncc.play-cricket.com or call Marc Gillham on 07970 515088.
